To clear the trunk and prepare your path of retreat

  1. Use the limbing technique to free the tree from branches from your shoulder height and down. Start from the top down and make sure that the tree is between you and the product.
  2. Remove dirt, stones, loose bark, nails, staples and wire from the tree where the felling cuts are made. Remove undergrowth from the bottom of the tree.
  3. Do a check of the area for obstacles such as stones, branches and holes. You must have a clear path of retreat when the tree starts to fall. Your path of retreat must be approximately 135 degrees away from the felling direction.
